QR codes are those square-shaped graphics you see posted in many places, and which appear as black and white squares meant to be scanned. Perhaps you have even tried scanning them with your mobile phones!
QR code is short for "Quick Response Code," and a QR code is a style of two-dimensional barcode that you can scan using your phone camera (some phone devices require downloading a QR Code scanner app). They can also act as codes that provide a link between the physical and the digital world (Offline to Online). For instance, instead of manually logging into a website, one can easily open the website just by scanning the QR code.
When you scan a QR code, you are most likely going to be directed to one of the following:
- website
- text message
- business card
- social media page
- and many more!
Patented Technology
Did you know that QR codes are patented under a well-known car manufacturer? That's right. Denso Wave, Inc., a subsidiary of Toyota, has a number of patents for the QR code. People can freely use the QR code provided that it follows the standards in ISO.
